Through The Years

Originally called The Natatorium, The Plunge was constructed in 1925 as the centerpiece of the park, along with the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster. The 60’ by 175’ pool was, at the time, the largest saltwater pool—holding 400,000 gallons. The building surrounding it was built in the Spanish Renaissance style, similar to the structures in San Diego’s Balboa Park. In 1940, the saltwater was drained for freshwater, as it began to damage the filtration system. Years later, the Pool has once again been transformed into a new, modernized destination for a new generation to experience.
