Through The Years

Originally called The Natatorium, The Plunge was constructed in 1925 as the centerpiece of the park, along with the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster. The 60’ by 175’ pool was, at the time, the largest saltwater pool—holding 400,000 gallons. The building surrounding it was built in the Spanish Renaissance style, similar to the structures in San Diego’s Balboa Park. In 1940, the saltwater was drained for freshwater, as it began to damage the filtration system. Years later, the Pool has once again been transformed into a new, modernized destination for a new generation to experience.

Polar Plunge

Bring a swimsuit and join Belmont Park’s Winter Wonder fun at Plunge San Diego that transforms the facility into a Polar Plunge, a warm winter oasis. Take your family photos in our winter wonderland photo op or rent one of our igloos for a unique party. There will be fire pits for roasting s’mores and snow will fill the building all throughout the day. Keep an eye out for the Polar Bears walking around the facility and lounging around for more great photo opportunities. Enjoy our 84-degree heated water and retractable roof which allows for ideal swimming conditions despite the weather. Our floating obstacle course, the Aqua Jungle, will be open every day for guests to enjoy. Winter plans are not complete without a visit to our extremely popular MEGA Noon Year Celebration event on December 31st from 10:30am-1pm. Come create some family memories that will last a lifetime.
