The Giant Dipper Roller Coaster
With great fanfare, The Giant Dipper Roller Coaster opened for the first time 85 years ago on July 4, 1925. Back then, visitors rode without seat belts or cares and paid only a dime to ride. The Giant Dipper holds the fondest of memories for San Diego natives in the past, present and future. To learn more about the Giant Dipper and it's rich history, click here.
Mission Beach Plunge
The Mission Beach Plunge originally opened on May 29, 1925 and was said to be the centerpiece of the Mission Beach Amusement Center, now known as Belmont Park. Originally a salt water pool, the Plunge was converted to fresh water by 1940, as the salt was ruining its filtration system. Many San Diego locals first learned to swim in this enormous indoor pool and have continued the tradition with their children ever since. For more history on the Plunge, click here.
